Integration Overview
How TackQuote connects with ExemptAx
Eliminate manual data entry, prevent shipping or pricing errors, and streamline B2B order execution.
TackQuote records a buyer's tax exemption certificates and validates them against ExemptAx, giving you the documentation behind an exemption decision in one place next to the buyer it belongs to. Be clear about what it does NOT do, because the distinction matters at audit: certificate validity does not change what tax is charged. A quote is exempt because this buyer's tax-exempt setting says so, or because a per-quote override says so — nothing in tax calculation reads the certificate list. Recording a valid certificate is evidence for that decision, not the decision itself. Validation happens when someone submits a certificate, not on every quote. Note also that ExemptAx is configured once for the whole deployment rather than per seller, so there is no account for you to connect.

Capabilities
What's included in the ExemptAx connector
Built out-of-the-box for enterprise sales teams, distributors, and manufacturers.
Real-Time Validation
When a buyer is added to a quote, TackQuote queries ExemptAx to check certificate validity for the relevant tax jurisdiction. Validation happens in seconds.
Automatic Tax Exemption
Exemption is set explicitly on the buyer, and the certificate list sits beside that setting as its supporting evidence. The screen shows the current setting so the two are never read in isolation.
Certificate Storage
Certificates are stored per buyer with the status ExemptAx returned. A certificate stored while ExemptAx is unconfigured — or when a check failed to complete — is shown as "Not validated" rather than as valid, so an unverified claim can never read as a verified one.
US State Jurisdictions
A certificate records the two-character issuing state and one of a fixed set of exemption categories — resale, manufacturing, agricultural, government, nonprofit and others. The form is US-shaped: the validated field is a two-character state code, so this is not a route for provincial or international exemptions.
Setup Guide
4 steps to connect ExemptAx
Submit a certificate from the buyer's Tax Certificates tab and TackQuote validates it against ExemptAx, then keeps the result as evidence.
Not yet connectable
ExemptAx has a working backend endpoint but no settings screen was ever built, so there is currently nowhere in TackQuote to enter the key. This page describes what the connector does once that screen exists.
Upload buyer certificates
Collect buyer exemption certificates via TackQuote's buyer portal or upload directly. TackQuote sends them to ExemptAx for storage and indexing.
Auto-validate on every quote
Validation runs when you submit a certificate — not on every quote. Set the buyer's tax-exempt status yourself; the certificate is the record supporting that choice.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about ExemptAx
What happens if a certificate expires mid-quote?
TackQuote re-validates certificates when quotes are updated. If a certificate expires, the tax line reverts to standard rate and the rep is notified to collect a renewed certificate.
What do I need to connect ExemptAx to TackQuote?
An active ExemptAx account with an API key, plus TackQuote Pro plan or above. Buyer certificates can be collected via the buyer portal or uploaded directly.
Does this replace my sales tax calculation engine?
No. ExemptAx only handles exemption certificate validation. TackQuote quotes still apply standard tax rates for non-exempt buyers through your existing tax setup.
